My Service to You

I am available for booking for private parties and events.  You may see me busking on occasion in town centres.

Hire

I am not full-time as a musician.  Therefore, the more notice, the better.

I will quote a price based on the total time (which may include travel and interrupt other plans), sometimes giving a higher initial hour price.  This reflects the time I will also need to spend rehearsing and preparing and the taxman's take.

If you are looking at a wedding booking, then, make it clear early on, as there are additional things I will need to know, like where in the ceremony/reception proceedings you want me.  Perhaps something like this song will suit: https://youtu.be/1hogSthpMLs

The best thing is to contact me with a brief outline of the event, timings, audience, facilities and so on.  This can be done on the 'Contact me' section of this website.  The more information you can provide me with, the more likely it is that I will be able to tailor things to your requirements and the physical venue.

I can cover hundreds of songs and many genres, including tinpan, folk, skiffle, pop, Rock N Roll, Rock and Country.  With notice, I can tailor my performance to an occasion, like a wedding or works party.

Once a firm booking is made, I usually ask for a deposit, payable usually 21 days before the date.  This safeguards both me and you - I will mark the date in my diary so I don't book something else in.  This will not usually be returned if you cancel, depending on circumstances (obviously, I am reasonable, but a firm booking means I may have had to turn down something else).

If you already know all the details, you can ALSO (should you prefer) book me through https://app.gigpig.uk/artists/profiles/6867

Insurance

Although most venues have their own cover, I also have Public Liability Insurance to cover me (link below).

If the venue is likely to be busy, I may have to check that their cover will also cover my equipment for things like theft, as my insurance has certain exceptions.  (Some venues provide lockable storage.)

If your event/organisation has specific insurance, then please check to see that it covers me.

(At informal gatherings, I will take general responsibility for my items, but expect you and your family/friends to take normal reasonable care - most of my ukes are not that valuable,  but repairs/replacement cost me in time and money.)

Equipment

Mainly instruments and stand

I don't often do amplified performances.  Not that I can't, it's just that I don't feel that I need to for the sort of events I usually do.  So all I need is a small space for me, and to put my instruments and music stand.  If the environment is particularly noisy, or the venue is very large, we can discuss options - I have some small-scale equipment which will just raise the volume a bit, and for existing amps/mixers, I can plug in, and I will use it if necessary.

Knowing the Great British weather, please provide a canopy or cover for outside performance if you can.  I don't stop just at the sign of the lightest spot of rain, though.  Of course, you may well have your own arrangements for indoor alternative for bad weather, and I will readily move inside if that's the case.

I often bring more than one instrument, as different songs and styles go better on some than others, and it gives a more varied performance.  The variety is in size (from tiny literally-pocket-sized to tenor banjo) and type (multiple stringed, banjolele, etc.).  It also means that a minor disaster like a broken string doesn't stop me carrying on.

My promise

I will endeavour to turn up for booked events.
I will liaise with you beforehand where possible to get information.
I hope that you are well and truly entertained.

In return, I expect you to let me know if things change, as soon as you can. For example, if you have to cancel due to bad weather, let me know, and be aware that there may be costs associated dependent on notice - I recommend that you have insurance for major events and this should also cover my costs/loss of deposit.  Please give accurate information, including directions (I tend to use maps, so name of place is fine, unless it is hard to find).  I expect prompt payment of deposit and balance, by the method or process agreed - I will not 'knock a bit off for cash'.  I accept cash, cheque, bank transfer, Paypal and some other means - we can discuss this on booking.
